Following her experience with Covid 19, having successfully avoided infection for more than a year, Lowry sought solace in her work.  Rosella vanitas is a rich composition of blowsy blooms.  The brightly coloured birds exude a lively presence, with the butterflies seemingly ready to take flight.  Three birds and three butterflies nestle within the floral arrangement.  While this vanitas work reiterates the transience of life it also reminds viewers that life must be enjoyed.  Throughout the Momento Vivre series of works Lowry reminded viewers to continue to take pleasure in living.  Having now contracted and survived Covid 19, Lowry is concluding this series with Rosella vanitas.  Blooming slightly past their peak, the flowers exude a weariness while the birds and butterflies remain as a reminder of the beauty of life.
