‘Reliance’
I come back to flowers and animals. Always.
‘Memento Mori’ artwork makes fragile flowers permanent, it places importance on small life forms and asks us to value them, and appreciate nature. It reminds us of our impermanence, as well the value of our lives, and all life.
Still life’s allow me to explore themes important to me, from the similarities between Covid and the plague, to the threat and extinction of wildlife. Each symbol a construct of the concept. The viewer is invited to ‘read’ the work, and bring themselves to it.
This piece, ‘Reliance’, reminds us that many plants rely on birds to spread their seeds. The disappearance of birds and mammals leads to a steep decline in seed dispersal, further damaging our eco systems.
