Cabinet of Curiosities

My studio is being renovated and my cabinet of curiosities is currently packed, so I have been working on the kitchen table. I'm researching and experimenting and finding my way towards creating a body of work that reflects on the loss of natural diversity in the insect world due to climate change, while also examining our uniquely human desire for retaining memory. We have a need to collect, preserve and organise. I see Cabinets of Curiosities as the ultimate expression of this.

Memory, loss, curiosity, mortality.

I have been working with these Thai Clear-Wing Cicadas (Macrotristia chantranei) to create 'ghost' insects for inclusion in floral still life fine art photographs.

Each night I have been painting on layers of enamel hobby paint, and experimenting with gold leaf.

I can't wait until my studio is ready for me to move back in to, so I can start photographing these!
